Low yields this year may make honey stocks more attractive to thieves.

Four tons of honey were stolen from a warehouse belonging to a bee farmer near Gloucester before Christmas. The honey was in 30 pound containers and CCTV showed the honey being loaded into a lorry but, as yet, the thieves have not been identified.

Honey Survey 2012

The honey survey for the South East Region has just been published. And it makes hard reading: the honey take is at an all time low 19lbs against 31lbs last year (which was regarded as a bad year!) per hive. Honey Survey 2012

Epigenetic Codes in Bee Development

New research at the University of Sheffield and in Australia has discovered histone codes in honey bees for the first time. These codes are in the proteins that control the way DNA is expressed. They could hold clues to the way that bee larvae with identical genetics can develop differently into queens and workers based on environmental factors such as what they eat.
