HBKA Honey Show 2014

HBKA Annual Honey Show, part of the Harrow in Leaf Show. Set up Saturday 23rd, open to the public 12:00 to 17:00 Sunday 24th and Monday 25th of the August Bank holiday. At the Harrow Museum & Heritage Centre, Headstone Manor, Pinner View, HA2 6PX

Sarah writes: "Whether you've been keeping bees for 6 months or 30 years; please try to enter something – 100 entries and the “ Blue Ribbon” best in show can be awarded. Although winning is nice it’s the taking part and supporting the event that’s most important – and there’s no reason that your honey /wax /cake etc; won’t be as good as any others. With the hot sunny summer we finally had; I am sure most beekeepers will have a pound of two of their own honey this year, why not enter them into our honey show."

Plenty of classes for non beekeepers or those without honey – and to answer a common question – “No it doesn’t have to be your own honey in the cookery section “. If you’re not around over the show weekend contact Sarah or Tilman about taking your entries …so no excuse!

Sarah and Tilman will collect entry forms at Hatch End over August Sundays or deliver direct to Judy Walker (details on the entry form). If you are sending your entry in direct please make sure that you list Harrow Beekeepers on the entry form as your Society. Also please have a look at the other classes ...and the new class 450th Anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare. There really is something for everyone.http://harrowinleaf.org.uk/annualshow/download/2014_show_schedule.pdf

If you wish to sell honey at the show then, as usual, you’ll need to help out and to enter a jar of honey in the gift class (Class 98) and at least one other class in the honey section. Sale price of honey is £6 per 1lb with 10% going to HBKA, selling a maximum of 50lb. Let Sarah or Tilman know in advance if you would like to sell your honey (or other produce).

Finally as always …volunteers please ! The rota has gaps …Saturday for set up and Sunday and Monday to help at the show.  Please let us know – before we really start nagging - when you can spare a couple of hours. There will be a rota to be filled before the BH weekend
