Asian Hornet reports - Updated

The NBU has stated that previous reports of the Asian Hornet (Vespa Velutina) in Kent on investigation were the much less aggressive European Hornet (Vespa Crabro). The NBU photo above shows the distinguishing features iof the Asian hornet which has a velvety body, yellow legs and a single yellow band on the abdomen.

Asian hornets which prey on bees were accidentally introduced into France some years ago and have expanded their range to the channel. As the range expands it is almost inevitable that the hornet will be found in England at some point. If there are sightings, most likely in South East England or around ports report them to the NBU.
