Asian Hornet Nest Destroyed but more found...

The NBU has reported that an Asian Hornet (Vespa velutina) nest has been found and destroyed near Tetbury in Gloucestershire. However there are now more confirmed hornets in Somerset, north of the Mendips There are pictures on the NBU website of the nest as below. The Tetbury nest was 55 feet up in a conifer. So far there are no reports of hornets neaby since that nest has gone, but time is running out to find any other nests before the queens disperse to hibernate.

The nest is substantial, but being so high would be easy to miss. More photos and identification guide is available linked from the NBU news pages.
